HAIL AND FAREWELL:
IBWALA Massive,
I regret to inform you that our dear brother, poet, educator & spoken word artist Sunji Ali passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from heart failure at 68 years of age in Inglewood, CA.
Bro. Sunji (also known as Gene A. Williams) was creator of “Obama Dreamwalk,” a volume of poetry dedicated to the current U.S. president. In addition Sunji founded the spoken word collective Original Soul Visions Productions, taught in the Los Angeles and Compton school districts and was a longtime member of IBWALA. His work is prominent in our seminal anthology “76th & San Pedro.”
With a heavy heart,
Wayne FrenchIBWALA President
