Next Critique Workshop September 4
The next IBWALA Pasadena workshop will held be from 1-4pm at the San Rafael Branch of the Pasadena Library, 1240 Nithsdale Road (on the corner at Avenue 64) in southwest Pasadena.
Novels, poems, short stories, screenplays and stage plays, and other works in progress will be read and discussed. Manuscripts may be up to 20 pages, typed and double-spaced. Bring as many as three to five copies to share at the workshop. Participants may also submit to others in advance via e-mail. Works will be presented in the order received. That means first come, first serve! Paid-up IBWALA members reserve priority. The roundtable waits. Hope to see you there.RSVP to have your work critiqued!

event includes 24 mini-panels and lectures where you can hear lively discussions

On Tuesday, December 1, 2009, 6:30 p.m. atThe California Endowment’s Center for Healthy Communities located at 1000 N. Alameda St. Los Angeles, CA 90012, Center Scene Public Programs will host a networking reception and booksigning for "A Question of Freedom." About the book:
One fateful night in 1996, 16-year-old Dwayne Betts carjacked a man sleeping in a parking lot and suddenly became, in his own words, “a statistic.” He spent nine years in adult prison and uses his book and his experiences to confront questions about violence, race, opportunity and the criminal justice system. Join us for a public conversation with Betts where he will share his compelling story and discuss how we can build healthy and safe communities for youth.
